While ATR is an ideal method of analysis by FTIR of base polymers, often in pellet form for quick quality control or raw materials testing, if it is required to determine the presence of additives or contaminants in low concentrations, transmission analysis using a thin film sample with a longer pathlength than is possible with ATR is the best method. The Constant Thickness Film Maker and High Temperature Constant Thickness Film Maker tools enable the hot pressing of polymers to form a thin film sample and is one of the most commonly used techniques for the analysis of polymers by FTIR. Ideally suited for use with the Specac 15-ton manual press, there are 2 options based on the maximum temperatures of either 300 oC or 400 oC.
